The La Barge castle

stained glass of the 16th century

From the beginning pathes and ponds accompany the visitor up to the estate. One occurs by the stores, whose different functions permitted to live in autarcy. The castle surrounded by moats, retained its feudale basis. It became modifications up to 18. Century. An unexpected scenery of terraces (400 balusters) led to a chapel sheltering a remarkable whole of stained glasses (work of 16th). In the axis of the castle a embanked surface of 2 ha allowed the creation of a decorative garden-kitchen garden in style Le Nôtre or Quintinie, (in reorganization). Pauline de Montmorin, evoked by Chateaubriant in the "Mémoires d'outre-tombe", played child there. It is one of the remaining elements of an ambitious project of park expressed on plans and letters of 18th.

Between hills and river, the landscape was organized little by little around the castle: open parts of meadows and fields and timbered parts, be connecting all and sundry releasing of the prospects, hydrography very present for the draning and charm in form of moat, basins, ditches, small bridges and of a channel placed across the slope (1 km length, chart of Cassini)… 19th added a water garden with islands at the entry of the domain .

A long history !
