The Pionsat castle

The building of the first lowland castle of Pionsat dates back to the end of the l4th century (Hundred Years War). In 1482, Jacques de Chazeron bought the castle: the erection of the square tower dates from this period. François and Antoine de Chazeron had more ambitious plans: the Renaissance castle had been intended to be larger than the medieval fortress and, had it been totally erected, it would probably have superseded the feudal castle.

This building wich was started slightly before 1550, was interrupted in 1610. Thus it was an unfinished edifice that Charlotte de Chazeron transmitted to the Chabannes by her marriage. The Renaissance château was listed in 1920.
