The Chareil-Cintrat castle

Situated at the bottom of a hill, Chareil was originally one of the fiefs of the house of Bourbon. Claude Morin, an ordinary war inspector, inherited the Chareil château in the beginning of the 16th century and painted settings inspired by the antique were carried out for him. In 1954, the state announced its intention of purchasing the château and set about restoring it.

The sculpted decoration marked by the second French renaissance is arranged according to three architecture registers, Ionic, Doric and Corinthian. The inner makings are adorned with matching frames. The wall paintings form a whole of an exceptional quality due to their inspiration, homogeneity and the elegance of some paintings.
